Paul Manafort, the former campaign chairman for Donald Trump, allegedly spent thousands of dollars on clothing and extravagant fashion accessories, including a $15,000 jacket "made from an ostrich," according to federal prosecutors.
During Manafort's criminal trial on Wednesday, a mens clothier reportedly provided an image of the ostrich jacket Manafort bought through an international wire transfer.
The internet also appeared to put Manafort on trial for his fashion choices after the Department of Justice released images of his clothes.
Federal prosecutors revealed that Manafort made other high-dollar purchases, such as a $21,000 watch and a $2 million house.
Judge T.S. Ellis, who presides over Manafort's case, was reportedly hesitant to release photos of Manafort's clothes, and deliberated about whether it would benefit the trial, according to The Washington Post .
Manafort stands accused of bank and tax fraud for allegedly concealing tens of millions of dollars from his contracted work for a pro-Russian Ukrainian leader. When he stopped receiving payments, he allegedly lied about his income in order to get approved for bank loans in the US.
Manafort is a subject in the special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe, but his current trial pertains to his alleged financial crimes. He faces another trial in September on charges he failed to register as a foreign lobbyist.

"Dr. Pimple Popper" — the new TLC series starring dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee — has featured plenty of the fun cyst and lipoma pops Lee's fans have long adored.
But the show has also ventured into more serious territory. Last week's episode, for instance, highlighted a woman with a rare condition that makes one side of her body dramatically larger than the other .
And the series' fourth episode, which aired Wednesday night, told the story of a woman named Diane, whose skin is covered in thousands of tiny, benign tumors because of a condition called neurofibromatosis.
Here's a closer look at the episode.

In an interview at the start of the episode, Diane explains that she has neurofibromatosis, or NF . That's actually an umbrella term for three different conditions, according to the Mayo Clinic. All share a commonality, though: They're genetic disorders that cause (usually) benign tumors to grow on nerve tissue .
Diane appears to have NF1, the type that makes soft, benign tumors (or neurofibromas) grow on or under the skin in most people who have it. It occurs in 1 in 3,000 to 4,000 people worldwide , according to the US National Library of Medicine (NLM).

The condition usually appears during childhood and could announce itself with a variety of other signs and symptoms , including "cafe-au-lait" birthmarks, freckles in the groin or armpits, bone deformities, a larger-than-average head, and short stature, the Mayo Clinic website explains. While some people with NF-1 have learning disabilities and ADHD , most with the condition have normal intelligence, the NLM website adds.
The biggest risk factor for NF is a family history of the disorders, according to the Mayo Clinic. That fits Diane's case perfectly: Both her brother and her father have NF, too, she explains during the episode.
"I got my condition from my dad. As a child my skin wasn't that bad. I had a very very mild case," Diane says in the initial interview. "I didn't start getting this until my late teens or early 20s. That's when it started being more prevalent."
The disorder can lead to physical issues and emotional distress.

NF1 can have some physical complications , including vision problems, heart problems, abnormally formed bones, and in some people, tumors that are cancerous instead of benign, according to the Mayo Clinic. But the appearance-related symptoms of the disease can also cause "cause anxiety and emotional distress , even if they're not medically serious," the Mayo Clinic website adds.
"This skin condition has really robbed me of my self esteem because I am so tired of people looking at me strangely," Diane says. "This condition, it just robs you of everything."
And in her consultation with Lee, Diane reveals another way that her NF1 has impacted her life.
"I've been to see dermatologists before and they said there's a 50% chance your kids will have it," she tells Lee. "So I never had kids myself because I didn't want my kids to have it." (That statistic is spot on: Any child has a 50% chance of inheriting NF1 from a parent who has it, according to the Mayo Clinic.)
Dr. Lee can't cure Diane, but she does remove some of the tumors with scissors.

Unfortunately, there is no known cure for NF1 , according to the NLM. But Lee finds one way to help: by physically removing some of the most bothersome bumps on Diane's stomach.
"I'm trying to concentrate on the ones that really irritate her the most," Lee says in the episode. "I do worry that the things that I do for Diane aren't going to help her as much as I wish I could. Because I can't cure this. I can't make this go away. And my goal here is just to at least make her life more comfortable."
To accomplish this, Lee cuts off the bumps with a pair of serrated scissors. Even after the neurofibromas have been numbed with anesthesia, however, Diane still finds the procedure painful.
"It was really surprising just how much that hurt. In fact, even more than I expected," she says.
Lee also uses laser treatment to smooth a section of Diane's face.

Lee then addresses a section of tumors on Diane's chin.
"I think it's really important to treat a person with neurofibromatosis on their face because this is really how they present themselves to the world," Lee says. "More or less you can hide the ones on your body but you can't hide the ones easily on your face."
She uses a scalpel to shave down some of the chin bumps, then follows with a CO2 laser to resurface the skin.
"The way this laser works is by essentially burning a very, very thin layer of the skin and when you do this, it really kind of heals up nice and smoother," Lee says. "It looks really scary but it can work really well."
A month later, Diane says others have noticed the results.

In a follow-up interview, Diane says that others have noticed she's "had something done" to the neurofibromas on her face. She also thanks Lee for restoring some of her confidence.
"I'm going to cry because she's given me back some self esteem," Diane says in her final interview. "I thank her for that."
Diane's story highlights one of Lee's core messages for fans.

Fans already know that Lee's YouTube channel often highlights skin issues that are technically benign but still have negative impacts on a patient's life. This is a deliberate effort, as Lee explained to INSIDER in an interview earlier this year .
"Dermatologists deal with fewer life-threatening emergencies compared to other medical specialties, however, this doesn't mean that we don't administer life-changing treatments or do life-changing surgeries," Lee told INSIDER. "Patients who come to see me can be very vulnerable. They have an issue that they know isn't life-threatening but surely threatens their mental and emotional well being."
By featuring stories like Diane's, it seems Lee is aiming to deliver the same message to her TV viewers.

After he apologized to an analyst on Wednesday, investors seemed ready to cheer Tesla CEO Elon Musk again. AP
All seems to be well again with the Elon Musk personality cult.
Tesla's stock is soaring once more. And all it seemed to take was an apology from Musk .
The company's shares were up a bit after it reported its second quarter results, but they really took off after Musk apologized to analyst Toni Sacconaghi at the start of Tesla's conference call. That seemed to assure investors and fans alike that Musk was sane, stable, and back in charge.
"There's no excuse for bad manners, and I was kind of violating my own rule in that regard," Musk said, blaming lack of sleep and 120-hour work weeks for his transgression.
Since Musk took over control of the company, Tesla's success has relied in large part on investors' and customers' faith in him. They've been able to overlook all kinds of things that would have sunk just about any other tech company — the massive ongoing losses, the recurring need to return to the capital markets to raise more capital, the repeated production problems and shortfalls — just because of their belief in Musk.
But that faith seemed to be shaken in recent months. Even as Tesla was struggling to ramp up production of its Model 3 vehicle, Musk was acting more and more erratically. He lashed out at Sacconaghi and another financial analyst, journalists — including my colleague Linette Lopez, a whistleblower , and even a cave diver who helped rescue trapped children in Thailand.
Meanwhile, when some might rightly have expected him to be focused on fixing the bottlenecks at his factory, he vowed to help out with that cave rescue , as well as to help solve the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
Amid growing concern about Musk's behavior and the ability of Tesla to ramp up production of the Model 3, the company stock sank, falling as much as 20%.
But the stock rebounded on Wednesday. In after-hours trading it was up as much as 11% before settling in with about a 9% gain.
There didn't seem to be much to cheer about in Tesla's results
Other than Musk's apology, there didn't seem to be much for Tesla investors to cheer about.
Tesla reported yet another huge quarterly loss for the second quarter — one that was bigger than expected — and saw another massive outflow of cash in the period. Despite crowing that the company finally hit its 5,000 car a week production target for the Model 3 at the end of the quarter, the numbers released Wednesday made clear that it averaged far less than that — its pace for the quarter was little better than 6,000 per month. What's more, the company made clear that it couldn't maintain that 5,000 car-a-week pace on an ongoing basis in July.
That figure is all-important, because Tesla has said that it needs to be making 5,000 Model 3s a week to break even on the vehicle.
But there was more to worry investors who could get past Musk's apology. The company acknowledged it would have to seek financing to build a planned new factory in China, despite the fact that Musk has repeatedly dismissed the idea that the company would need to raise more funds. Musk also warned that Tesla might not meet its previous production target of 1 million cars a year in 2020.
Even the positive notes in the report came with caveats
To be sure, there were some other positive notes in Tesla's report and the earnings call besides Musk's apology. But if you weren't wowed by his reality distortion field, you would have noticed that they came with significant caveats.
Take Musk's promise that Tesla will be profitable and generating operating cash flow on a quarterly basis going forward. Assuming the company's able to hit those targets, those would be notable achievements. But they come with a big caveat — they're unlikely to help its dwindling cash supply.
That's because Tesla's capital expenditures are likely to far outpace whatever operating cash it can generate for the foreseeable future. As Tesla indicated on the call, it plans to spend around $1.24 billion on such investments in just the next two quarters. And it expects the factory in China to cost it another $2 billion in capital expenditures — likely next year.
And then there was the tales Musk told about how the company quickly set up a new production line in the second quarter to expand production of the Model 3 and about how the company is constantly discovering new ways to make the car more efficiently. Thanks to the latter, Tesla expects its gross profit margin on the vehicle — the difference between what it charges customers for the car and what it costs to make — to go from small single digits, percentage-wise in the second quarter to 15% in the third.
For Musk, the tales were ones of triumph over adversity.

Seen in a more skeptical light, they illustrate just how unprepared Tesla was to become a mass-market car maker. As company executives acknowledged on the call, Tesla built its new manufacturing line, for example, out of parts it discarded previously because it couldn't figure out how to get them to work on another of its lines. Those discarded machines cost the company money and time while they remained idle.
And while it's great that Tesla is ringing efficiencies out of the Model 3, one would think that with better design and planning, it would have been able to make the car at much better margins from the beginning. It's hard to believe a traditional car company such as Ford or GM would have had such a struggle getting one new car model into production.

The US has imposed sanctions on two top Turkish officials on Wednesday in a long-standing dispute over Turkey's detention of an American pastor.
The US Treasury Department targeted Turkey's Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gul and its Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu, whom they say played a major role in the arrest and detention of the evangelical Christian pastor Andrew Brunson.
"Pastor Brunson's unjust detention and continued prosecution by Turkish officials is simply unacceptable," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement. "President Trump has made it abundantly clear that the United States expects Turkey to release him immediately."
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders reiterated the Justice Department's words at a press briefing Wednesday, and said that Trump had personally ordered the sanctions against the officials who played "leading roles" in Brunson's arrest.
Brunson,50, is originally from North Carolina, and has led a small congregation in the coastal Turkish city of Izmir since 1993.
He was arrested in 2016 and has been accused of orchestrating a failed military coup attempt against Turkish President President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He has been imprisoned in Turkey for the last 21 months on espionage charges, though he was moved to house arrest last month because of health concerns.
Brunson has denied any wrongdoing. He faces up to 35 years in jail if convicted.
There are suspicions that Brunson's detention could be politically motivated. Erdogan has openly suggested a high-level strategic swap with the US in exchange for Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania who has been accused of masterminding the 2016 coup attempt.
Since the failed coup, Erdogan has instituted sweeping executive powers, which allow him to select his own cabinet, regulate ministries and remove civil servants, all without parliamentary approval.
Erdogan, who has dominated Turkish politics for 15 years, was sworn in as president last month. Opponents say his newly enforced executive powers have lurched the country towards authoritarianism .

Surely, I would have forgotten hundreds of tasks over the years, misplaced hundreds of paper shopping lists, or lost hours-worth of notes taken at work. All those brilliant screenplay ideas that I've had while riding the bus or at the gym or somewhere else where I couldn't easily get to a more traditional word processor would be simply gone forever, if it were not for my note taking apps.
