'The Americans' creators said finding a McDonald's that looked like it was from 1987 was 'literally a drop down from heaven'

Warning: This post contains major spoilers for the series finale of "The Americans." Read at your own risk.

No one thought McDonald's, which makes America's best french fries, would be a meaningful part of the FX drama "The Americans" — but it played a pivotal part in the series finale, which aired Wednesday night.

While on the run from the FBI, KGB spies Philip, Elizabeth, and (their daughter) Paige Jennings stop at McDonald's for dinner. They're on their way to Russia to avoid arrest.

Their last stop, at America's most iconic fast-food chain, represents the capitalist country Philip and Elizabeth lived in for decades. It's the country Elizabeth hated, but Philip took a liking to over time.

During a conference call with creators and showrunners Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, the two described the exciting challenge of creating the look and feel of a McDonald's in 1987. Fields joked that they could talk "a lot" about incorporating the fast-food chain into the series finale, and Weisberg said it wasn't as simple as just shooting at a McDonald's.

"That's quite a story," Weisberg said. "We loved that so much as Philip's final goodbye to this greatest icon of American capitalism as he had become enamored with capitalism and America itself."

Throughout the series, Philip is clearly more comfortable with American life, while his wife Elizabeth remains loyal to the Soviet Union, often disgusted by the America. But she gets more used to it as the series goes on and as she opens up to her husband's optimism.

Weisberg said it was a "journey" to get McDonald's in the scene, because they needed approvals from the corporation. "It's not something McDonald's had done a lot," Weisberg said, "and fortunately, McDonald's ended up being enthusiastic about it. And we had a really great experience with them. But it just took a lot of work to get to them."

Once they got the approval, they had another obstacle: the series finale takes place in 1987, and that's a tough period to find, since McDonald's locations and signage have been updated many times over the years. It was incredibly important to McDonald's and to Weisberg and Fields to get the location, the signage, and everything in the scene to be completely accurate to the period. Thankfully, the locations department found a spot that Weisberg describes as "literally a drop down from heaven," although there was some "green screen magic" involved to make this particular location look like it was on the side of a road.

To make the interior and the signage of the period, McDonald's tapped a librarian who kept record of all of the old McDonald's signage. "We're obsessed with that sort of period history," Weisberg said. "It was amazing to have that resource. It came together."

In order to access this information (if it is posted at all) you will need to "invite" your friend. However, you can only invite your friend if you are a member on Spock.

If you are not a Spock member, you will find that singing up is a very fast and simple process. All you are required to do is provide your name, gender, email, create a password and you're all set.

Keep in mind that even though Spock may be able to assist you in finding someone's phone number, if you want to find out who owns a phone number you will need to use a reverse phone lookup, which is a different search service altogether.

Zinedine Zidane has quit Real Madrid in the most spectacular fashion

Zinedine Zidane has resigned from his managerial role at Real Madrid.

The 45-year-old made a shock announcement confirming his decision at a hastily-arranged media conference on Thursday, just five days after winning the 2018 UEFA Champions League final — his third successive Champions League title.

According to the BBC, Zidane expressed his "love" for Real before explaining the rationale behind his resignation. "What I think this team needs is to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology. And that's why I took this decision."

He added: "It's a strange moment to do so, I know, but an important one too. I had to do this for everyone."

Zidane took over the Real reigns in January 2016. In the two and a half years he has managed the club, the Frenchman has overseen an unprecedented era of sustained success. Zidane has guided Real to 104 wins and 29 draws from 149 games in all competitions — a win rate of 69.8%.

He is quitting in spectacular fashion as he has now won the La Liga championship, two FIFA Club World Cups, and three Champions League titles.

But it is in keeping with how he has left football in the past.

After all, Zidane's last action as a professional footballer was ramming the butt of his head into the chest of Marco Materazzi during the France vs. Italy final in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Zidane had converted a seventh minute penalty earlier in the game, a goal that was eventually cancelled out by Materazzi's 19th minute equaliser. With the match precariously-poised at 1-1 in extra time, Zidane's headbutt saw him sent off in the 110th minute. France lost the match via a penalty shootout.

Now, his decision to bow out as Real boss is equally shocking.

"This was a totally unexpected decision," Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said. "Zidane informed me of his choice yesterday."

Considerations for Starting A Business

Although opinions may vary but starting a business may be one of the most important career moves you can make. Your own business will mean that you can determine your own working hours, have the satisfaction of being your own boss, and most importantly be proud of being the founder of an organization as it grows in size and reputation.

The truth about starting your own business is that it is not as easy as it sounds. Before you start investing your money into your business you will need to determine a number of key factors such as what product or service are you going to sell, who is your target customers, who is your supplier, where are you going to operate your office etc. Let us look into each of these factors in details.

The market is flooded with products that satisfy almost all your needs and more. Just try to think of a product or service that you feel is not available in the market, and chances are that there is not any. Still with time more new products are being introduced in the market some to satisfy or compete with already existing product white others are improvements to existing ones or offering new satisfaction of needs. Before you start your own business you will need to determine what product or service you are planning to sell. Will you be introducing a new product in the market? Or will you be selling already an existing product that has a good customer base? There is no saying that one is better than the other. You will simply need to determine your strength and your business location and make a calculated and educated pick.

Selecting your target customers is as important as what you want to sell. Based on the type of product or service you are interested in selling you will also need to determine who you want to sell it to. For example if you are thinking of selling clothes you will need to determine what range of products you will offer. Will you sell clothes for old people or fashionable ones for youngsters or party wear or offer something for them all.

Where you set up your business is also important. It is useful to set up your business close to your customer base. No one would like to drive a few blocks just to pick up a few items or would they? However, the digital revolution of this century provided a new option or location to start and establish your business ie website. Now-a-days you may set up your product store online and operate your business from your home office. The home based business has dramatically reduced the cost of starting up a business as well as operating it. Entrepreneurs simply need a suitable and comfortable place in their home to sit it, computer / laptop, printer, phone and internet connection all of which are usually available in every home. This simple arrangement enables people to retail product that others are manufacturing by operating a website or online catalog of products and drop shipping each product to the customer's doorstep.

If you are not producing your own product then you will be either whole selling or retailing products that others will manufacture. Either way you will need to determine who your suppliers are and how and when the products will be delivered to you. If you have a showroom or a store so to speak that you will need to display your products to the customers. On the other hand if you are selling online that you will need to collect the product list from the supplier and make arrangements so that your site is always updated with products that are available and that they are shipped as soon as orders are made.

There are thousands of considerations for before starting your business and the fact is not one knows all of them or has answers to them all before starting their business. The basic issues are described above and hopefully this will get you started in the right direction. Getting started is the most difficult thing and once you get started you will face a few obstacles and along with them will come solutions that you may adopt.

A data privacy firm started by an engineer who worked for America's spy agency raised $35.7 million in funding led by Mark Zuckerberg's wealth manager

Virtru, a data privacy company founded by a former NSA engineer, has raised $37.5 million in a series B preferred stock financing round led by ICONIQ Capital, the firm most famous for managing Mark Zuckerberg's wealth fund.

Bessemer Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates, Samsung, Blue Delta Capital, and Soros Capital have also previously invested in the company and are joining the funding round. To date, the company has raised $76.8 million.

"Due to the traction over the past two years, we really had our pick of investor and ICONIQ stood out because as we continue to grow, they can continue to invest with us," CEO John Ackerly told Business Insider. "We really want to meet this moment in the market where society is understanding the importance of protecting their property, it's not just their homes, it's their data."

Virtru uses the Trusted Data Format, an open source technology developed by Will Ackerly, a former security architect at the NSA and Virtru's CTO. With an easy-to-use interface, Virtru can easily secure emails with end-to-end encryption.

Right now, Virtru works with Gmail and Microsoft office. With the money, the company plans on expanding beyond email and releasing integrations into Google Drive, One Drive, Box, and Dropbox. Virtru also plans on putting the capital behind promoting the Trusted Data Format, the open source technology behind the company's encryption software.

"We want to put real dollars behind promoting a common open standard, the Trusted Data Format, to protect data. That includes building a community of other companies and developers and working with standards bodies to unify that data can be protected anywhere that it's shared," John Ackerly, Virtru's CEO.

Swinging the pendulum back

Virtru was started by John and Will Ackerly, brothers with hefty policy and technology experience. Will, the company's CTO, was a cloud security architect at the NSA before leaving to start Virtru in 2012. John was an adviser during George W. Bush's first term in office, focusing on technology policy.

On September 11, 2001, John was preparing for a meeting with White House officials to discuss consumer data protections. But that meeting never happened. And soon after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, John witnessed the Patriot Act being signed into law in what he saw as a major step backward for user privacy. John worked for the Bush administration for a few more years before he left in 2004.

Meanwhile, Will was was deployed in Iraq and tasked with carrying secure information to Special Ops teams. The only way he could Guarente that data was secure was physically running and back forth with a USB drive. He started working on the Trusted Data Format because, he thought, there had to be an easier way to protect data.

Even today, the TDF is used by intelligence agencies to share information.

Sitting around the dinner table in 2009 — years before the Edward Snowden leaks in 2013 that revealed the depth of NSA surveillance — both brothers found they were frustrated there wasn't an easy solution to protect individual data, and they wanted to "swing the pendulum back to the individual instead of the government."

In 2012, the Ackerly's decided to quit their jobs and work on Virtru full time.

Virtru now has more than 8,000 customers, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, major universities, and hospitals. And in recent years, John said, more attention has highlighted the issue of data privacy.

"17 years after the Patriot Act was signed, we really have a chance to be a leader on this issue," John said. "It's really not acceptable that after all this time we're still debating whether GDPR is a good idea or not."

2 UBS analysts just made a big market call that should have everyone a little worried

Many on Wall Street have tried and failed to call the end of the three-decade-long bull market in bonds.

As the 10-year yield recently approached and leapt above 3%, meaning bond prices were falling, this call was whispered again by market commentators.

But a pair of technical analysts at UBS don't see the bond bull market ending soon — at least not in 2018, even as traders make record bets for the opposite.

"With the break of the 2017 bull trend in US 10-year yields we have relatively clear evidence that our suggested major 2018 yield top is in, which de facto would be a huge game changer on the macro side," Michael Riesner and Marc Müller said in a note on Tuesday.

The rebound in the 10-year above 3%, fundamentally speaking, has partly been driven by the expectation that US inflation would increase. A drop in yields, as the analysts forecast, could signal a reversal of the so-called reflation theme, which is predicated on stronger economic growth and an extension of the nine-year long expansion.

"It would simply imply that the 2016 reflation cycle has topped and it means we are just at the beginning of a major rotation from cyclical stocks back into defensives, which underperformed more than 2 years," Riesner and Müller said.

Their call for lower yields is on the other side of Treasury speculators, who, on net, recently made record short bets on the 10-year, according to data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. But last week, some speculators were likely squeezed out of their short positions as political turmoil in Europe bid up bond prices and sent yields tumbling from above 3%.

"With last week's significant reversal in US yields, we have growing evidence that the May 15th yield top at 3.11% represents our anticipate [sic] major 2018 yield top," Riesner and Müller said. They expect the 10-year to fall to as low as 2% late this year.

Besides the speculative positioning, they're watching the charts, as would be expected of technical analysts, who study chart patterns in making forecasts. They said that the 10-year broke its September 2017 bull trend, signaling the recent run-up in yield was over.
