Every time I turn on the computer or TV I seem to encounter a new VoIP service provider. For a long time I did not have a clue about these companies. Now that I have transitioned to this new style of telephone provider I will never go back.
VoIP (voice over IP) Phone Services is pretty much the same as your old telephone just with an upgraded technology. Many people are familiar with software that lets you talk to others over the Internet. VoIP is very similar to this, but you actually use your phone to interface with your computer.
Instead of connecting your phone to the wall you connect it to your computer using a box that the VoIP Company provides. This box is a modem that requires a high-speed Internet connection. Setup of the phone is very easy. You simply plug the modem between your current cable/DSL modem and your computer. The modem has a phone jack for your regular phone. Once you have everything connected it will boot up and configure itself.
VoIP phone services offer many benefits, but the one that sticks out the most is the price. For only $9.95 a month most services offer unlimited local and long distance calling, caller id, call waiting, call forwarding, voicemail, email alerts, and many more features.
A lot of people are still paying way too much with a regular phone provider. The fact is with a VoIP phone provider they would get a lot of good, free features and options at a fraction of the price they are paying now.
On and average switching over to a good VoIP will save you $30.00 a month. That is over $300.00.
I would suggest if you have not switched over to a VoIP phone service that you do it as soon as possible. It is easy to do and will save you money.
