Why 'Stranger Things' fans have to wait until next year for season 3

During its executive panel at the Television Critics Association (TCA), Netflix confirmed the third season of "Stranger Things" won't air until around the summer of 2019.

When vice president of original programming Cindy Holland was asked why "Stranger Things" has been delayed until next summer, we learned that co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer are trying to up the ante once again.

"Well it's a hand-crafted show," Holland said. "The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy work really hard and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year."

"They want to take the time to get it right," Holland said. "I think it's going to be a fantastic season. It's going to be worth the wait."

The coming season will involve more CGI elements, too. That added production time is another reason why fans will have to wait even longer to see what Eleven, Hopper, and the rest of Hawkins get up to in the coming season.

"There are more special effects and I think it's going to be a really exciting season, but it just takes a little more time," Holland said.

Thanks to the first teaser for "Stranger Things" season three released earlier in the summer, we might have at least one clue of what to expect when it comes to a possible Russian spy subplot . For more, read INSIDER's list of the biggest questions we hope the third season answers.
